Set your suspension up for your ride.

A shock pump helps you adjust an air-sprung fork or rear shock to suit your weight, riding kit and bike's setup guidance. Designed to move small amounts of air at high pressure, it gives you the control needed for careful adjustments at home or during a setup session at the trailhead. Choose a pump with the right pressure range, a readable gauge and a head that can reach your suspension's air valve.

Why Use a Dedicated Shock Pump?

Air suspension needs a different approach from tyre inflation. A shock pump's small air volume and fine adjustment help you set pressure gradually, while a bleed button lets you release small amounts of air. An ordinary tyre pump isn't a substitute, even when its head fits the same valve. Combined tyre-and-shock pumps are an option when they're explicitly designed for both jobs.

Whether you ride a mountain bike, e-MTB or another bike with an adjustable air spring, setting pressure is part of finding suitable support and sag: how far the suspension settles under your weight in riding kit. You don't need a shock pump for a rigid bike or a suspension unit without a user-adjustable air spring.

What to Look for in a Shock Pump

  • Pressure range and compatibility: Check your fork or shock's setup requirements and maximum permitted pressure. Choose a pump rated for the required range, with a suitable valve connection. The pump's maximum rating is not a recommended suspension setting.
  • Gauge and fine adjustment: Look for clear readings around the pressures you use and an accessible bleed control. A digital gauge can make readings easier to see, but stated accuracy and a useful scale matter more than display type alone.
  • Hose reach and handling: A flexible hose and a head that fits comfortably around the frame make setup less awkward. Compact models are convenient to take to the trails; for regular home use, prioritise comfortable pumping and easy-to-read controls.

Start with the bike and suspension makers' setup instructions, then check sag with your usual riding kit. Disconnect the pump before checking sag and follow the model-specific procedure for balancing air chambers where required. There isn't one pressure or sag setting that suits every fork, shock and rider.

Keep a note of your starting pressure and setup so you can make small, deliberate changes and compare how the bike feels. For tyre checks and puncture repairs, use a track pump or portable tyre pump alongside your suspension tools.
