Find bike multi-tools for small adjustments and repairs away from your home workshop. Choose a compact tool with the fittings your bike needs, then build the rest of your ride kit around your tyres, wheels and route.
Carry the functions you can actually use
A multi-tool keeps several useful fittings together without filling your bag. The right choice depends on the bolts and components on your bike, not just the number of functions listed. Check that each tool can reach the fitting and gives you enough room to work.
What to look for in bike multi-tools
- Fittings and sizes: Compare the included hex, Torx and other fittings with your bike, including any tools needed to remove a wheel. Not every multi-tool covers every axle.
- Repair functions: If a chain tool is included, check compatibility with your exact chain design. Check any spoke keys or other specialist features against the parts fitted to your bike.
- Handling and storage: Consider reach, grip and packed size. A folding body can restrict access around recessed bolts; keep the tool secure in a bag or suitable mount.
Practise with your carry kit at home before relying on it. Add compatible puncture repair supplies and a suitable bike pump: a multi-tool alone cannot deal with every flat tyre. For final tightening to a specified setting at home, use a suitable torque wrench.
