Specialized Turbo Levo Electric Mountain Bikes

Full-power and lightweight e-MTBs, built around the same trail-first DNA.

The Specialized Turbo Levo family is a performance-led electric mountain bike range built around four distinct ride options. There are three full-power models — the Turbo Levo 4, the more aggressive Turbo Levo Evo and the lighter, more agile Turbo Levo R — plus the lightweight Turbo Levo SL. All are designed to ride like true trail bikes first, with assistance added to enhance control, confidence and fun rather than overwhelm it.

Whether you want maximum assistance and range for big mountain days, or a lighter, more agile ride that feels closer to a traditional trail bike, the Turbo Levo range lets you choose the right level of amplification for how and where you ride. Explore our Electric Mountain Bike guide to compare full-power and lightweight options.

Three full-power options, plus a lightweight choice

Three full-power options — Turbo Levo 4, the longer-travel Turbo Levo Evo and the lighter, more agile Turbo Levo R — plus the lightweight Turbo Levo SL. All built around the same trail-first design DNA.

GENIE suspension technology on Specialized Turbo Levo

Advanced suspension across the range

Turbo Levo, Levo R and Levo SL use GENIE suspension technology for traction and support, while Levo Evo takes a longer-travel, more gravity-focused approach for tougher terrain.

Highly adjustable trail geometry

A stable, modern trail setup with adjustable geometry and mixed wheels helps you tune handling for your terrain — from tighter singletrack to big mountain descents.

Key features across the Turbo Levo range

Across the Turbo Levo family, you’ll find a shared set of trail-focused technologies, tuned for confidence, control and real-world riding.

Trail-optimised geometry

Modern trail geometry with a low bottom bracket, slack head angle and balanced reach helps keep the bikes composed on steep descents, predictable through corners and stable at speed. Multiple adjustment points (head angle, chainstay length, BB height) allow riders to fine-tune handling to suit terrain and riding style.

Mixed-wheel setup

Wheel setups vary across the Levo family. Turbo Levo 4 and Turbo Levo Evo use a mixed-wheel setup for a balance of control and agility, while Turbo Levo R runs dedicated 29" wheels for speed and stability on fast, flowing trails.

Motor systems

Turbo Levo 4, Turbo Levo Evo and Turbo Levo R use Specialized’s full-power 3.1 motor, delivering strong, consistent support for steep climbs and long rides. Recent firmware updates have increased peak power and improved responsiveness, with standard models now delivering up to 105Nm of torque and 820W peak power. S-Works models continue to offer the highest performance, with even greater peak output while maintaining the same intuitive ride feel and traction. Turbo Levo SL uses the lightweight Specialized SL 1.2 motor, offering 50Nm of torque and 320W peak power for a quieter, more natural ride feel.

Battery systems

Turbo Levo 4, Turbo Levo Evo and Turbo Levo R feature a large-capacity 840Wh internal battery that is fully removable for easier charging and transport, with the option of a lighter 600Wh battery or adding a 280Wh range extender for extended range. Turbo Levo SL uses a lighter 320Wh internal battery, with the option to add a 160Wh range extender for longer rides.

GENIE suspension and Evo-specific suspension layout

Turbo Levo, Turbo Levo R and Turbo Levo SL all use Specialized’s GENIE suspension technology, which blends small-bump sensitivity with more support deeper in the travel for better traction and fewer harsh bottom-outs. Turbo Levo Evo uses a different, longer-travel suspension layout aimed more clearly at steeper, rougher and more aggressive riding.

It uses the same updated Specialized 3.1 motor and 840Wh battery platform, but pairs them with a more gravity-focused chassis and extra suspension travel.

Compared with the standard Levo, the Evo is aimed more clearly at technical descending and harder riding, while still keeping the smooth, natural ride feel that makes the Levo platform so popular.

  • Same Specialized 3.1 motor and battery platform with smooth, powerful support
  • Mixed-wheel setup for stability up front and agility at the rear

Turbo Levo vs Turbo Levo Evo vs Turbo Levo R vs Turbo Levo SL – which is right for you?

All four bikes share the same trail-first thinking, but they deliver it in different ways. Turbo Levo, Turbo Levo R and Turbo Levo Evo are all full-power e-MTBs, while Turbo Levo SL focuses more on lower weight and a more natural ride feel. The main differences come down to how much support you want, how much travel you need and whether you prefer a more agile or more planted feel on the trail.

When to choose Turbo Levo

Choose Turbo Levo if you want the most balanced all-round option in the range. It is the best fit for big rides, technical climbing and varied terrain, with full-power support and a planted trail-bike feel that works well across a wide mix of riding.

When to choose Turbo Levo R

Choose Levo R if you want full-power support but prefer a lighter, more responsive bike than a longer-travel full-power e-MTB. It is a strong fit for riders who want speed, agility and easier handling on flowing and technical trails.

When to choose Turbo Levo Evo

Choose Turbo Levo Evo if your riding regularly includes steeper, rougher or more demanding terrain. With 180mm front and 170mm rear travel, it is the more aggressive, longer-travel option for riders who want extra confidence and control on tougher descents.

When to choose Turbo Levo SL

Choose Levo SL if you prioritise agility, lower weight and a more natural trail-bike feel. It suits riders who enjoy a more active, rider-led experience and do not always need full-power assistance on longer climbs.

Also consider who you ride with: If most of your regular riding group is on full-power e-MTBs, Turbo Levo, Levo R or Levo Evo can make it easier to match pace on long climbs and repeated laps. If your group rides lighter e-MTBs or analogue trail bikes, Turbo Levo SL often feels more natural on mixed-ability rides, while Levo R sits in a useful middle ground if you want more support without going all-in on a bigger full-power setup.

What’s the difference between Turbo Levo and Turbo Levo SL?

Turbo Levo is the full-power option for maximum support and range on steep climbs and long rides. Turbo Levo SL is the lightweight option, designed for a more natural trail-bike feel with subtler assistance and a more agile ride character.

Is the Turbo Levo R lighter than the Turbo Levo?

Yes. The Turbo Levo R frame is around 500g lighter than the Turbo Levo, and complete builds are significantly lighter overall thanks to lighter components. It’s not as lightweight as the Turbo Levo SL, but it’s very light for a full-power e-MTB — which helps the bike feel more responsive and easier to handle on the trail.

What’s the difference between Turbo Levo and Turbo Levo Evo?

Turbo Levo Evo is the longer-travel, more aggressive version of the standard Turbo Levo. It uses the same 3.1 motor and 840Wh battery platform, but adds 170mm rear travel and a 180mm fork for more control on steeper, rougher terrain.

The standard Turbo Levo is the better all-round option for mixed trail riding, while the Levo Evo is the better choice if your riding leans more towards technical descents, bike park terrain or more demanding trails.

Is the S-Works Turbo Levo motor more powerful?

Yes. Standard Turbo Levo and Turbo Levo R models use the full-power Specialized 3.1 motor, now delivering up to 820W peak power and 105Nm of torque following recent firmware updates. S-Works Turbo Levo models use the higher-output S-Works 3.1 motor with up to 850W peak power while maintaining 111Nm of torque.

Is the Turbo Levo battery removable?

Yes — Turbo Levo models use a removable internal battery, making charging and transport simpler. Turbo Levo SL uses a lighter internal battery that's not user removable. Both bikes are compatible with an optional range extender for longer rides.

Can Turbo Levo bikes receive firmware or motor updates?

Yes. Turbo Levo and Turbo Levo R models can receive firmware and system updates through Specialized’s app and Turbo operating system, including over-the-air updates. These updates may refine motor behaviour, ride feel, battery management, connectivity and system features over time — so the bike can improve or evolve after purchase as Specialized releases new refinements and capabilities.
