Trek Fuel + Electric Mountain Bikes

Trek Fuel+ electric mountain bikes with TQ HPR60 assist for all-day trail rides

Trek Fuel+ e-MTBs

TQ HPR60 power, a bigger 580Wh battery, and three set-ups (EX, MX & LX) so you can match your ride to your trails.

The Trek Fuel+ is a lightweight, mid-power electric mountain bike designed to deliver a natural ride feel and all-day trail capability. Smooth pedal-assist support helps you climb more, ride further, and keep the good times rolling.

Worth knowing: the standard Trek Fuel / Fuel EX are non-electric trail mountain bikes. Fuel+ models add the new TQ HPR60 drive unit and an integrated 580Wh battery — so you get proper trail-bike handling, with extra range and elevation in your pocket.

580Wh battery, Range Extender ready

A 580Wh battery is built for long trail rides, with compatibility for TQ’s 160Wh Range Extender when you want to go further. The battery is removable from the downtube with a hex key for easier charging and transport.

Key features across the Fuel+ range

Fuel+ is built on a versatile trail-focused frame platform designed for all-day capability. Integrated TQ assist adds smooth, natural support so you can ride further, climb with more confidence, and keep the handling feel you expect from a modern trail bike.

TQ HPR60 motor + 580Wh battery

A compact, efficient system designed for natural trail feel: 60Nm torque, 300W continuous rated power, 350W peak power, plus a 580Wh battery and Bluetooth/ANT+ connectivity.

Adaptable trail technology

Interchangeable rocker links and shock mounts reconfigure the frame for each build, so you don’t compromise bottom bracket height, leverage rate or head angle when changing the set-up.

Dropper-friendly fit + accessory-ready frame

The frame layout allows generous dropper post insertion — so many riders on a size Medium can run a 200mm dropper. Add the top-tube accessory mounts for tools and spares, plus space in the front triangle for bottles or a range extender, and it’s a tidy set-up for big days out.

Zero-stack headset for easy customisation

A zero-stack headset standard keeps things simple when you’re upgrading or fine-tuning — including compatibility with angle-adjust headsets and custom headset colour options.

Full-colour display on top models

Fuel+ 9.8 and 9.9 models feature TQ’s new full-colour LED display for an easier view of ride metrics at a glance.

Travel-friendly riding option

Fuel+ can be ridden with the main battery removed and the 160Wh fitted instead. That makes it possible to travel with the a compliant 160Wh Range Extender (main battery removed) and still enjoy assisted riding at your destination.

Why choose the Trek Fuel+?

Fuel+ is built for riders who want proper trail-bike handling with discreet, natural-feeling support — the kind that lets you ride your favourite loop, then add “just one more climb” without emptying the tank.

With EX, MX and LX configurations, it’s easy to choose the ride feel you want: efficient all-rounder, playful mixed-wheel, or long-travel hard-charger. This means you can choose the Fuel+ set up that best suits your favourite trails and your riding style.

Trek Fuel+ e-MTB riding on technical trail terrain

TQ HPR60 power, quiet efficiency, all-day trail capability

The TQ HPR60 drive unit delivers 60Nm of torque with support that engages at lower cadences, giving a more supportive feel on steep climbs while keeping handling natural and trail-bike focused. Integrated cooling fins help maintain consistent performance on long, high-output rides.

A 580Wh battery supports long-distance trail riding, with compatibility for TQ’s 160Wh Range Extender for extra range when you need it. Fuel+ 9.8 and 9.9 models also feature a full-colour LED display for an easier view of ride metrics.

Choose your Fuel+ set-up: EX, MX or LX

Fuel+ can be built in three configurations by swapping rocker links, lower shock mounts, suspension and/or wheels — so you can match the bike’s feel to your trails, without compromising geometry or suspension performance.

Fuel+ EX

29er wheels145mm rear / 150mm front

The balanced all-rounder — efficient on long climbs, confident on natural singletrack, and spot-on for riders who want one bike to do it all.

Fuel+ MX

29" front / 27.5" rear150mm rear / 160mm front

The playful choice — quicker to turn, easier to pop off side hits, and brilliant when your trails are tight, steep and a bit rowdy.

Fuel+ LX

29er wheels160mm rear / 170mm front

The long-travel bruiser — more composure at speed, more confidence in rough terrain, and a more progressive feel when you’re pushing hard.

What changes as you move up the spec levels

Fuel+ model numbers (5, 8, 9.7, 9.8, 9.9) describe the spec level — things like frame material, suspension, drivetrain and braking performance. Availability can vary by set-up (EX/MX/LX), but the step-ups below are a great guide.

Spec levelWhat to expect
Fuel+ 5Your gateway into the platform: alloy frame, reliable trail suspension, and a dependable drivetrain with strong braking performance — ideal if you want the Fuel+ experience at the sharpest price.
Fuel+ 8A noticeable step up in ride feel: more performance-focused suspension and components, with sharper shifting and braking for riders who spend a lot of time on trail centres and technical singletrack.
Fuel+ 9.7The step into carbon. Lighter frame feel with a more premium build kit, giving you a quicker, more responsive ride without going full “top-shelf” on every component.
Fuel+ 9.8Where things get properly premium: a high-end carbon build with higher-spec suspension and a more precise shifting/braking package for harder, faster riding.

Fuel+ 9.8 and 9.9 models also include the TQ full-colour LED display for clearer ride metrics.
Fuel+ 9.9The no-compromise build: top-tier suspension, the best shifting options, and the most powerful braking spec — for riders who want maximum performance and the most refined ride feel in the range.

Fuel+ FAQs

If you’re still weighing up options, our electric mountain bike guide is a great place to start.

What’s the difference between Trek Fuel and Fuel+?

Trek Fuel / Fuel EX are non-electric trail mountain bikes. Fuel+ adds a TQ drive unit and integrated battery for smooth pedal-assist support — so you can ride further, climb more, and keep your trail-bike handling intact.

Which Fuel+ set-up should I choose: EX, MX or LX?

EX is the balanced all-rounder (29er, 145/150mm). MX is the playful option (mixed wheels, 150/160mm). LX is the long-travel hard-charger (29er, 160/170mm). Each of these Fuel+ builds is available in different specifications from the gateway Fuel+ 5 up to the top-tier Fuel+ 9.9.

Can I boost range on Fuel+?

Yes — Fuel+ uses a 580Wh battery and remains compatible with TQ’s 160Wh Range Extender for longer days in the saddle. The battery can also be removed from the downtube with a hex key for easier charging and transport.

Can I travel with the Trek Fuel+ on a plane?

The main 580Wh Fuel+ battery cannot be carried on passenger aircraft, as it exceeds the 160Wh limit set by UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and international airline safety regulations.

However, the compatible TQ 160Wh Range Extender falls within the permitted limit, and you can ride with this alone on the Fuel+. Under CAA guidance, passengers may carry up to two spare lithium-ion batteries rated between 100Wh and 160Wh in hand luggage, usually with airline approval. Spare batteries must not go in checked luggage and terminals should be protected against short circuits.

This means you can travel with the Range Extender (subject to airline policy), making it possible to ride Fuel+ at your destination with assist for shorter rides. Always confirm your airline’s current battery rules before flying.
